Olympian Ed Clancy Rallies Sheffield Community for Exciting Family Ride Ahead of Bike Week 2025

Triple Olympic champion and South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner, Ed Clancy OBE, attended an Active Wellbeing family event in Parkwood Springs, Sheffield.

The event, aimed at getting more people active more often, coincided with the start of Bike Week, which promotes cycling as a fun, healthy and sustainable mode of transport and exercise.

Family Bike Ride

On Sunday, 8 June, Olympian and South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner, Ed Clancy, took part in a family bike ride at Parkwood Springs, Sheffield, alongside CSSC and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).

Clancy’s visit forms part of Active Wellbeing’s ongoing mission to increase awareness of the benefits of participating in sport and physical activity across the country and encouraging public sector workers to be active and social outside of work by coming together to make lifelong memories alongside family and friends.

The Commissioner spent time with participants, discussing the importance of being more active, the benefits of walking, wheeling, and cycling, and the positive impact of physical activity on mental and physical health.

During his career that spanned 17 years, Ed Clancy won four Olympic medals, twelve UCI Track Cycling World Championships, seven European Track Championships and a medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games to become one of the most successful Team Pursuit cyclists in history.

The 40-year-old still plays an active role within the cycling community as South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner, working with partners to transform the region into a healthier, happier place by encouraging people to walk, wheel, and cycle more.
